Maldives Minister of Foreign Affairs Abdulla Shahid has discussed the ongoing Covid-19 pandemic with his counterpart from the Kingdom of Thailand, Don Pramudwinai.
During a telephone conversation on Thursday afternoon, the pair discussed the Maldivian government’s Covid-19 response efforts including the precautionary measures put in place, to contain and control the spread of the infection among the people.
FM Shahid shed light on the impact of the pandemic on the country’s economy, noting that the island nation is highly dependent on tourism and imports.
The Maldives foreign minister applauded the government of Thailand for the strong measures implemented to curb the spread of the virus in the Kingdom.
King Mongkut's Institute of Technology Ladkrabang in Thailand, in cooperation with the Thai Government donated 10 mini ventilators for which FM Shahid expressed gratitude on behalf of the people and government of the Maldives.
Both minister went on to reaffirm their commitment to continue cooperating in several areas and collaborate in advancing interests on areas of mutual concern, both bilaterally and internationally.
