A delegation from the European Union (EU) has met with the allied opposition parties to discuss their perspective on the political situation in the Maldives.

RaajjeMV understands that dialogue within the meeting was primarily focused on potential terrorist activities within Maldivian borders and the opposition’s concerns over the upcoming presidential elections.

The meeting was held at Hotel Jen in capital city Malé, at around 20:30 on Monday. It was attended by representatives of the opposition Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP), the Jumhooree Party (JP), the Adhaalath Party (AP), and members of the divided Progressive Party of Maldives (PPM).

MDP’s chairperson Hassan Latheef and longstanding member Mariya Ahmed Didi, JP’s leader Qasim Ibrahim and deputy leader Abdulla Riyaz, AP’s Shidhatha Shareef, and opposition aligned MPs such as Faris Maumoon and Mohamed Waheed had all been at the meeting.

The EU’s delegation included officials from Germany, the United Kingdom, Italy, and Sweden.
