Random sampling for Covid-19
Covid-19: all samples taken from Hulhumalé Prison, negative
A total of 30 random samples were collected from the prison
This includes 15 inmates, five detainees at its detention center and 10 guards
Samples collected from all prisons, negative

All samples taken from Hulhumalé Prison has tested negative for Covid-19.

Maldives Correction Service (MCS) on Tuesday said that the Health Protection Agency (HPA) has informed that the 30 samples collected from the prison came back negative.

Random samples were taken from the Hulhumalé Prison last week, from 15 inmates, five detainees at its detention center and 10 guards.

While a total of 140 samples were taken from prisons under MCS, they all tested negative for the virus.

The Commissioner of Prisons, Ahmed Mohamed, earlier this week said that they were able to keep the virus away from the prisons “due to the stringent measures in place”.

Noting that various awareness sessions were held with all relevant institutions following the detection of a community spread, Ahmed stressed that their biggest priority was the safety of the prisoners and guards.
