White alerts have been issued for heavy rain, strong winds and rough seas throughout regions experiencing adverse weather conditions.

The Maldives Meteorological Service (MET Office) revealed that the alert from Raa atoll to Dhaal atoll is effective through 05:45pm to 10:45pm.

During the period, the department predicts strong winds of 19 – 24 miles per hour gusting at 50 miles per hour, as well as choppy seas.

Similarly, another white alert was issued from Laamu atoll to southernmost Addu city where heavy rain showers and thunder storms are expected from 6:15pm to 11:15pm.

MET revealed that seas will be generally rough throughout the country, with scattered showers and a few thunderstorms throughout the entire country until 6am, Sunday.

Further, showers may be heavy at times over central and southern atolls.

The department has also predicted swell wave surges during high tide times, with the wave height rising between 5 – 7 feet.

According to the general forecast, winds will vary from southwest to westerly in the south and west to northwesterly at 15 – 25 miles per hour throughout the rest of the country. Winds may gust between 45 – 55 miles per hour during showers.

The department urged individuals to be cautious of the adverse weather conditions and strong monsoon activities such as heavy rain, strong winds and choppy seas.
