As part of its efforts to assist the government enforce the “new normal”, the Housing Development Corporation (HDC) has marked the streets outside of local stores in capital Malé City’s suburbs Hulhumalé.

In a Tweet on Friday evening, the corporation revealed that the marks were made to help the citizens practice social and physical distancing, as the government prepares to ease the lockdown imposed across the Greater Malé Region, soon.

The initiative was taken as part of HDC’s preparations to prepare the suburbs for the “new normal” that will be in place due to the Covid-19 pandemic.

It has been over a month since the lockdown was imposed across the Greater Malé Region after the detection of the first community transmission of the infection on April 15. This was done as a precautionary measure to contain and control the spread of the virus among the communities.

The process of easing the lockdown will come in phases and the citizens will be allowed to go out, under a set of protocols and guidelines.

This includes enforcing social distancing, the use of face masks and adhering to safety measures set by the relevant authorities.
