The National Emergency Operations Center (NEOC) has urged those at a high risk of contracting the Novel Coronavirus (Covid-19) to remain indoors in the first phase of easing the lockdown imposed across the Greater Malé Region.

Covid-19 spokesperson, Mohamed Mabrook Aziz state that it is not clever for such individuals to go out even if the lockdown is eased, during the routinely press briefing on Friday night.

Highlighting that it is unsafe for elders, individuals seeking treatment for chronic illnesses and long-term ailments as well as those who have their immunity compromised, to go out even though the lockdown is being lifted, Mabrook revealed that authorities are working to make arrangements to ensure they stay home.

Shedding light on the importance of mental health care during these challenging times, Mabrook revealed that authorities are also formulating a special plan in collaboration with the social council. He added that a special focus has been given to mental health care efforts, which have been joined by the Maldivian Red Crescent as well.

Further, he added that the Ministry of Gender, Family and Social Services is closely monitoring the condition of elders, by contacting households and extending the required assistance for these individuals.

He highlighted that the ministry will also conduct household visits, if necessary.

Mabrook shed light on the cooperation for such efforts, extended by the Maldivian Red Crescent.
