An elderly woman who is to have recovered from Covid-19, has passed away.

RaajjeMV understands that an 80-year-old woman from Manadhoo island in Noonu atoll, who tested positive for Covid-19 on May 1, passed away on Thursday.

While she is reported to have recovered from the virus, she was kept at the hospital for further observation due to other health issues.

An official confirmed her death to RaajjeMV, adding that her condition had worsened three hours prior following "another infection".

While no further details were disclosed, the official added that her samples collected for Covid-19 testing following this, and that they are awaiting results.

Hence, this cannot be ruled a Covid-19 related death yet.

The woman was transferred from the Noonu atoll hospital in Manadhoo to the capital’s Indhira Gandhi Memorial Hospital (IGMH) after consulting there for another health issue, and was tested as per procedures despite not showing any Covid-19 like symptoms. While the first samples came back positive, two more tests were carried out; second sample was negative while the third tested positive for Covid-19.

Nine contacts of hers from Manadhoo, have tested positive for Covid-19 as well.
