Maldives confirmed a Covid-19 community transmission on April 15

Monitoring measures have been lifted from two additional islands.

National Emergency Operations Center (NEOC)’s spokesperson at Thursday night’s press briefing revealed that the monitoring status on Thulusdhoo island (Kaafu atoll) and Milandhoo island in Shaviyani atoll have been lifted.

Milandhoo was placed on monitoring on April 25 while the measures on Thulusdhoo island were placed on April 21.

The Shaviyani atoll island is one of the 13 islands that was placed under monitoring in relation to the captain of ‘Amaaz’ boat. The 49-year-old man had tested positive for Covid-19 after taking 98 passengers to the north; the boat left the capital on April 15, the same day a community transmission was detected in the city.

A Covid-19 case was confirmed on the island shortly after, however, there have been no additional cases.

Five cases have been reported from Thulusdhoo. All cases are to have been confirmed from the same house, which was quarantined following the first three cases. The other two are contacts of theirs.
