World Health Organization (WHO) has donated 5,000 Covid-19 test kits to the Maldives.
National Emergency Operations Center (NEOC)’s spokesperson, Mohamed Mabrook Aziz revealed this during Sunday night’s Covid-19 press briefing, and added that they will arrive in the country on Monday.
WHO had previously donated 5,000 test kits to the country as well.
Covid-19 testing is currently being conducted at two laboratories in the Maldives; at the National Reference Laboratory at Indhira Gandhi Memorial Hospital (IGMH) and the Forensic Laboratory at Maldives Police Service.
Testing capacity has been a concern in the country. While the country currently has the capacity to carry out 200-300 tests a day, a PCR testing machine is to arrive next week. With this, an additional 200 – 250 tests will be carried out per day.
