Tree Top Hospital (TTH) can treat up to 180 Covid-19 patients, at full capacity.

Dr. Amr Safwat, TTH’s Consultant Anaesthetist, revealed this at a press conference held at the National Emergency Operations Center (NEOC) on Saturday afternoon.

Noting that the full capacity of the hospital is 180 beds, the doctor said that they will be operating in three stages.

“Stage one is 15 ICU beds, 15 pre-ICU and 15 post-ICU. This is the capacity that we are working now, and we call serve all patients at this capacity”

Responding a reporter’s question, Dr. Safwat said that 45 patients can be treated “at one time”.

While the hospital has a 180-bed capacity and can treat 45 patients at once, current Covid-19 projections for the whole epidemic shows that a total of 5,805 patients will require intensive care while 13,568 will be hospitalized; a total of 77,305 infections are projected in the country. 281 patients are estimated to be hospitalized on peak day, while 101 might require intensive care.

Tree Top Hospital signed an agreement with the National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) on April 26, to provide the hospital’s services and facilities to the government.

Hence, the hospital is currently only treating Covid-19 patients and is to reopen to the general public in about 90 days, “after the last Covid-19 patients have recovered and are discharged”.
