66 contacts of the second Covid-19 victim have been identified and isolated.
This was revealed at Tuesday night’s press conference at the National Emergency Operations Center (NEOC), where authorities also announced that the individual had worked at the Kalhuthuhkalaa Koshi of the Maldives National Defence Force (MNDF).
At the press conference, Dr. Ibrahim Afzal stated that 66 contacts of the 33-year-old that passed away on Tuesday morning “have been identified”. The doctor said that contact tracing “is still underway”, adding that the number is likely to increase.
The Bangladeshi national was rushed to hospital early Tuesday morning following "a tonic-clonic seizure" and died not long after, and his cause of death was ruled as "a hemorrhagic stroke". While he had tested positive for the virus, his death has been classified as a Covid-19 related death, in accordance with guidelines by the World Health Organization (WHO).
He was buried in the evening, after authorities assured that the family was notified of his death.
Maldives has confirmed a total of 573 coronavirus cases thus far, out of which 205 are Maldivians. While the remaining are foreigners, this includes 289 Bangladeshi nationals.
