US grants USD two million aid in support of Maldives Covid-19 response efforts

As part of their efforts to assist countries worldwide in their Covid-19 response efforts, the United States of America has donated USD two million to the Maldives government.
In a fact sheet publicized by the US Department of State, it has been highlighted that the US government has committed more than USD 775 million in funds for emergency health as well as economic assistance for governments to combat the pandemic.
Taking to Twitter following the donation, the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Abdulla Shahid extended gratitude to the US Secretary State Mike Pompeo and Ambassador Alaina Teplitz for the generous contribution. He expressed that the Maldives needs such support and assistance from partner countries to overcome the pandemic.
As such, the USD two million in Economic Support Funding will support the expansion of social protection services led by the local civil society organizations. It will also assist them to advocate effectively for recovery policies for the pandemic.
Further, the assistance will also include technical support to the government, private sector and financial institutions to support hard-hit businesses.
Since 2004, the government of America has provided over USD 30 million in total assistance in investments.
