36 high risk contacts have been identified in connection to the ‘Amaaz’ boat captain that tested positive for Covid-19.

Dr. Ibrahim Afzal revealed this at Wednesday night’s Covid-19 press conference at the National Emergency Operations Center (NEOC).

Noting that 118 primary contacts of the 49-year-old boat captain have been identified, Dr. Afzal said that 36 of them are high risks adding that 13 have already exhibited Covid-19 like symptoms.

While samples of the high-risk contacts have been taken for Covid-19 testing, eight have tested positive as well -eight from Narudhoo island and one from Milandhoo (both in Shaviyani atoll)- including a pregnant woman;

Authorities on Tuesday stated that a community transmission was detected in the north, in connection to the captain who tested positive for Covid-19 after taking 98 passengers from the capital on April 15.

‘Amaaz’ boat started the trip to the northern atolls on April 15, the same day a community transmission was confirmed in the capital city, and is to have travelled on both the 15th and 16th.

The boat took passengers to 13 islands in the north, they are;

  3. Miladhoo, Noonu
  4. Kendhikulhudhoo, Noonu
  5. Velidhoo, Noonu
  6. Holhudhoo, Noonu
  7. Narudhoo, Shaviyani
  8. Funadhoo, Shaviyani
  9. Milandhoo, Shaviyani
  10. Feevah, Shaviyani
  11. Maaungoodhoo, Shaviyani
  12. Dhihdhoo, Haa Alifu
  13. Utheemu, Haa Alif
