Covid-19 taskforce’s spokesperson Mohamed Mabrook Aziz has clarified that a cabinet minister is currently under self-isolation, adding that the minister is a secondary contact of a confirmed Covid-19 case.
The spokesperson stated this during Monday night’s press conference at the National Emergency Operations Center (NEOC), where he revealed that three cabinet ministers are in self-isolation.
As such, he said that one minister is a secondary contact of a previously confirmed case. Noting that the minister has been in self-isolation since the contact had exhibited Covid-19 like symptoms, Mabrook said that the individual has since tested negative.
He also noted that a second minister has been in self-isolation as the building in which they reside was placed under monitoring. While apartments and building are placed under monitoring in relation to confirmed Covid-19 cases, Mabrook stressed that the case had not emerged from their apartment nor the floor in which they are residing.
Further, a third minister was told to self-isolate as a case was confirmed from a place they had visited. He noted that this was Ihsaan Fihaara (shop) where two Covid-19 cases have been confirmed, adding that the minister will be taken to a quarantine facility if required.
The spokesperson had to make the clarifications following confusion over Tourism Minister Ali Waheed's remarks earlier on Monday.
