MVR four million was spent to bring back medical students from abroad.
This was revealed at the Covid-19 daily press conference on Saturday night.
Covid-19 taskforce’s spokesperson, Mohamed Mabrook Aziz said that 63 students were brought back from Philippines while 99 returned from Nepal and six from Pakistan.
A number of these students have since joined the workforce after completing the required quarantine period.
Noting that the country could face a shortage of healthcare workers given an increase in the number of Covid-19 patients, authorities had requested that medical students abroad to return to assist in Covid-19 efforts.
