Maldives Meteorological Service has issued a white alert from Gaaf Alif atoll to southernmost Addu City.
The white alert is issued between 08:30am and 12:30pm on Thursday over the region where heavy rain and thunderstorms are expected.
According to the department, heavy rain showers and thunderstorms are expected over southernmost atolls for the course of the next 24 hours.
Although the weather is not expected to adverse over the rest of the country, the entire Maldives will experience thundershowers, said the department.
While scattered rain and a few thundershowers are expected, surface winds will gust south-eest to southerly at 3 – 13 miles per hour and wave height is predicted at 1 – 3 feet.
Seas are expected to be slight becoming moderate during showers, said the office.
