Director-General of Public Health, Maimoona Aboobakuru has stated that private companies will be monitored to ensure they adhere to instructions ordered by the Health Protection Agency (HPA).

Speaking at the press briefing by the National Emergency Operations Centre's (NEOC) on Friday night, Maimoona stated that several efforts are underway to curb the spread of Covid-19 in the country and that support from the public is vital to the success of these efforts. Further, she noted that educational institutions and government offices were ordered to temporarily shut down for the sake of public health.

Highlighting that some offices are still operational during this period, Maimoona urged for all private companies to adhere to the safety precautions recommended by the HPA.

As such, Maimoona went onto state that all private companies will be monitored to ensure they follow instructions and take the necessary precaution.

With the first Maldivian testing positive for Covid-19 in the country, Maimoona stated that this shows the significance of following quarantine orders.

She went onto reiterate the importance of practising social distancing and repeatedly appealed for Maldivian citizens to stay home during this period.

Following the first Maldivian national testing positive for the disease in the country, Spokesperson for the government's Covid-19 taskforce, Mohamed Mabrook Aziz stated that safety measures to curb the spread of Covid-19 will be heightened and that additional measures will be implemented. These measures will be announced in the near future, said Mabrook.
