Ruling Progressive Party of the Maldives (PPM) Parliamentary Group Deputy Leader and Parliament’s Majority Leader Ahmed Nihan Hussain Manik has called on the Government to hold a private viewing of the China Maldives Friendship Bridge before the end of the month of Ramadan.

Nihan, who also serves as Parliamentarian for the Vilimale’ Constituency, made the request in Wednesday’s hearing of the Parliament session in the questioning segment for Housing Minister Dr. Mohamed Muizz. Dr. Muizz, is the key information source in the bridge development project.

Dr. Muizz was summoned to the Parliament to answer questions posed by Kimbidhoo Constituency Parliamentarian Abdullah Riyaz, regarding the progress of land reclamation in Hirilandhoo island in his Constituency.

Questioning the Minister, MP Nihan requested the Minister to open an opportunity for the 85 Parliamentarians to visit the Bridge prior to the end of the month of Ramadan. He said this will allow the Parliamentarians to observe the progress of the project.

The Minister had refused to answer the question, adding that it had no relevance to the topic.

Naifaru Constituency Parliamentarian Ahmed Shiyam, who also hails from PPM, had questioned Minister Muizz on the progress of the 100 housing units and port in Naifaru Island. The Member also questioned when the Bridge would be opened to public.

Minister Dr. Muizz had also refused to answer this question, citing that it had no relevance to the topic.

The China Maldives Friendship Bridge is slated for completion in 2018 and is hailed by the Government as a key milestone in national development.
