Authorities have arrested a 61-year-old man arrested in connection to a child sexual abuse case.

According to police, a sexual abuse case of a girl under 18 years of age was reported to the South Central Police Division (jurisdiction spanning over Thaa atoll to Laamu atoll) on March 25th.

A 61-year-old Maldivian man was taken under police custody on March 25th under a court order, said police.

Further, they state that child sexual abuse cases will be seriously monitored by Maldives Police Service and the victim's native island and atoll will not be publicly disclosed so as to protect their identity.
