Two resort staff that violated restrictive measures and fled to Fuvahmulah City have been arrested.
Authorities reveal that two workers at a resort in Kaafu atoll had fled to Male' City on March 19th and boarded a flight to Fuvahmulah City the next day, despite the 14-day ban on all travel between resorts and inhabited islands.
Both were given a 15-day remand.
The travel restrictions were imposed by the Director-General of the Public Health - on March 14th - under the powers vested by Section 34(d) of the Public Health Protection Act in order to combat the spread of the Novel Coronavirus (Covid-19) in the Maldives.
Previously, a Maldivian man was arrested for attempting to swim to Meedhoo island in Addu City from South Palm Resort and he has since been remanded for 15 days.
Authorities state that swift action will be taken against all those that violate orders issued by the Director-General of the Public Health.
