Two more test positive to Covid-19
Two people from a safari boat tested positive on Sunday
Another positive case was confirmed earlier on Sunday, from Anantara Dhigu
A total of five cases have been confirmed in the past 48 hours

Two additional persons have tested positive for Covid-19 in the Maldives.

The government's Covid-19 spokesperson, Mabrook Aziz made the announcement on Sunday afternoon during the regular press conference held by the National Emergency Operation Center (NEOC), adding that the new cases are the two isolated from the 'Island Safari' boat.

During the press conference, Mabrook reiterated that all persons currently on safari boats are barred from visiting any inhabited islands.

He also stated that contact tracing is being conducted and that the safari is under monitoring.

With the three new cases confirmed on Sunday, the total number of cases in the country has risen to 13. While authorities have not disclosed the nationalities of the confirmed cases, the state has revealed that all 13 confirmed cases have been foreigners who had been infected prior to arriving in the country.

The confirmed cases were discovered from the following locations;

  • Kuredu Island Resort: 5
  • Sandies Bathala Maldives: 2
  • Kuramathi Maldives: 2
  • Anantara Dhigu: 2
  • Island Safari: 2

No deaths have been reported yet, however, one confirmed case – a 70-year old – is in serious condition.
