MP Ibrahim Shareef, who represents Maradhoo constituency, has said that two men armed with sharp objects had tried to attack him.

MP Shareef told RaajjeMV that the attack occurred on Monday night outside his home. Shareef, who runs a business near there, said he was protected by his staff and that one of them had sustained some injuries to his leg.

Shareef is a longstanding parliament member, and is aligned with the opposition. While this attempted attack occurred Monday night, the opposition had pursued a no-confidence motion against parliament speaker Abdulla Maseeh, which failed amidst heated argument between lawmakers.
