The review committee established to assess remand cases and pending trials will conclude their work by the 15th of February, reveals the Prosecutor General's Office (PGO).

According to the PGO, the arrest remand committee which was created alongside the review committee will also conclude their work by 15th February and that no more submissions will be accepted beyond this date.

Nevertheless, cases calling for review will be accepted according to the discretion of the Prosecutor General as per the authority granted under the Prosecutor General's Act (9/2008).

While the review committee has concluded their work, PG Shameem has previously stated during a previous press conference that the people currently under remand are ones that "must" be there.

Many have voiced criticism regarding the rising amount of people under remand, claiming that it is a hindrance to justice. The constitution mandates courts to deliver justice within an acceptable time period.
