St. Regis leads Group A and Kandima leads Group B

Five-star resorts The St. Regis Maldives Vommuli Resort and Kandima Maldives have traveled to the semifinals in the “Dhaalu Zone” of the ongoing Resort League 2020.

The zone is ongoing in Kandima Resort and the team beat Angsana Velavaru during a Group B match held on Tuesday.

Kandima Maldives took the match 7 – 5.

Aafaq Hameed scored a hattrick for the team, Ali Shamiu scored two and the remaining two goals were scored by Mohamed Shah and Abdul Muqsith respectively.

Three players from the Angsana team, Ibrahim Fazeel, Hassan Saaman and Ibrahim Adam, scored five goals for the team.

Kandima leads the group with six points, having won both matches and second comes Angsana and Niyama Private Islands Maldives at third, although both teams tie with just one point.

Also on Tuesday, St. Regis and Sun Aqua Vilu Reef tied in a match of Group A.

Ahmed Shifau scored two goals for St. Regis and Aiham Ibrahim Shiham as well as Azim Abdulla scored one goal each for Vilu Reef.

With these results, St. Regis leads the group with four points, Vilu Reef at second with four points and Sun Aqua Iru Veli remains at the bottom of the group with zero points.

As Kandima and St. Regis head to the semis, second in the Group A, Vilu Reef will go head to head with Niyama in the third spot of Group B in the playoffs.

Further, Angsana, the team that came second in the Group B and Iru Veli, that came third in Group A will compete in the playoffs.

Teams who win the playoffs will secure the last two spots in the semis.

The finals in the “Dhaalu Zone” will be held on 8 March.

The Resort League is an annual tournament and is being held in five different zones including Dhaalu, Baa, South Ari, South Malé and North Malé Zones.

A total of 42 resorts are competing this year, and a total of 79 matches have been fanned out through the one-month long tournament.

Privately-run television station, RaajjeTV signed on as the media partner for this year’s Resort League.
