TC Sports Club has departed to Qatar, to train for this year’s AFC Cup.
The club, set to compete in the group stages, departed to take part in a training camp, an opportunity provided by the Football Association of the Maldives (FAM).
The team has been participating in training camps in foreign countries with assistance from the FAM on several occasions, the last one having been in Saudi Arabia during July 2019.
Coach Mohamed Shaazlee stated that the Maldives team is included in a strong group this time, with some of the strongest teams.
Further, he highlighted that the team has prepared well for the tournament.
TC is coming out with a strong squad for the AFC Cup, having gotten some of the strongest players during the transfer market including renowned football star Ali Ashfaq, Ali Shamis, Pakistani goal keeper Haneef as well as two players from Egypt. Further, Maziya’s Abdulla Haneef, a famous forward from Saint Vincent have also joined the team.
This is the first time TC is set to compete in the group stages of the AFC Cup, the team competed in the AFC Cup preliminaries during 2018.
TC is in Group E along with India’s Chennaiyin FC and Bangladesh’s Bashundhara Kings, Maldives team Maziya Sports and Recreation Club and India’s Super League champions Bengaluru FC.
TC is set to go head-to-head against Bashundhara Kings on 12 March during its first match.
