Alleged audios of tourism minister: police launches probe over sexual misconduct issue

Maldives Police Service (MPS) is investigating some audio clips leaked online, allegedly of a conversation between Tourism Minister Ali Waheed and a state minister at the youth ministry.

Noting that it is yet to receive a complaint over the clips, police revealed that an investigation has been launched into a sexual misconduct issue noted in one.

While these audio clips were leaked online, the man said to the home minister is heard making offensive comments about Health Minister Abdulla Ameen as well as two female cabinet ministers; Education Minister Aishath Ali and Transport Minister Aishath Nahula.

The voice is heard boasting of sexual misconduct against the female ministers; however, police did not elaborate further on the investigation.

Minister Waheed has dismissed the audios describing them as “fake” and an attempt to defame him.

There have been calls for Waheed's resignation, following the release of the audio clips.
