Maziya Sports and Recreation Club has headed to the playoffs in the preliminaries of the ongoing AFC Cup.
The club headed to playoffs after winning the away goal following a draw with Abhani Dhaka in the second leg of the preliminaries.
During the first leg, both Abhani and Maziya drew with a score of 2 – 2 last Wednesday.
The second leg was held at the Galolhu Stadium on Wednesday evening and both teams showed an average performance. Although the attacking game was weak on both sides during the first half, Abhani came out stronger with the first attempt at scoring, at the 27th minute.
Maziya attempted to score at the last minute of the first half.
The Maldives team strengthened its attacks into the beginning of the second half, having directed score attempts 13 minutes in, and at the 78th minute as well.
During extra minutes, a dispute flared between players and officials from both teams, leading to a red card to Maziya’s Assistant Coach, Ahmed Suzair.
Maziya is expected to go against Indian Super Cup League Champions Bengaluru FC and will win the group stages if it wins the playoffs and it will be in Group E along with TC Sports Club, India’s Chennaiyin FC and Bangladesh’s Bashundhara Kings.
Maziya Sports and Recreation Club has been preparing for the AFC tournament, with a strong squad.
