President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih’s request seeking approval for the newly appointed gender minister, has been forwarded for committee review.
Aishath Mohamed Didi was appointed to the post this Sunday, following Shidhatha Shareef’s resignation last week.
While the president had sent her name for Majlis approval, it was forwarded to the government oversight committee at Tuesday’s sitting.
Prior to her appointment as the Minister of Gender, Family and Social Services, Aishath was the country’s high commissioner to neighboring India.
Aishath has experience in the field, having served at the gender ministry from 2005 to 2008.
She was also a member of the United Nation’s Task Force on Gender and its Task Force on Youth and Adolescents, as well as the chairperson of the Children’s Home Governing Board, Council for the Rights of Children and Society for Health Education
She attained her Bachelor’s Degree in Arts in Lebanon, and her Masters in the United Kingdom.
Gender Minister Shidhatha resigned on Thursday, less than a day after the main ruling party's parliamentary group voted to dismiss her.
