Foreign Minister Abdulla Shahid has discussed cooperation at the international arena with three newly appointed ambassadors to the Maldives.

Three newly appointed ambassadors from Norway, Greece and the European Union to Maldives paid respective courtesy calls on Foreign Minister Abdulla Shahid on Sunday.

During one out of the three respective meetings, FM Shahid expressed interest to further enhance the relations with the Hellenic Republic.

As such, newly appointed Ambassador of Greece to Maldives, Dionyssios Kyvetos and FM Shahid discussed areas of further cooperation. Ambassador Kyvetos gave his assurance that he will remain willing and committed to work with the Maldivian government to take cooperation between both countries to new heights.

Moreover, FM Shahid expressed confidence that the bilateral relations between Norway and Maldives will be further strengthened during Ambassador Trine Jøranli Eskedal’s tenure, during a separate meeting.

Further, the pair exchanged views on enhancing collaboration between Norway and Maldives as well as strengthening cooperation in areas of mutual interest like environment and climate change in the close bilateral relations both countries have enjoyed for almost 36 years.

The meeting was joined by Desk Officer Saifulla Waleed.

Meeting with the Ambassador of European Union to Maldives, Denis Chaibi, FM Shahid expressed hope that the ties between Maldives and EU will continue to flourish during his tenure.

Stating that EU remains a strong partner of Maldives, FM Shahid expressed his keenness to take the relations to new heights.

Discussions also touched down on the ongoing cooperation between the Maldives and EU as well as future plans on expanding the partnership, especially in strengthening institutions, implementing judicial reforms, addressing climate change and countering terrorism and violent extremism in the country.

The meeting was joined by Desk Officer, Mohamed Shujau.
