Maldives Police Service (MPS) has admitted that authorities are unable to monitor sex offenders.

Relevant authorities were summoned for questioning by the 19th Parliament Committee on Human Rights and Gender on Saturday night regarding the rape of a 2-year-old that surfaced late Thursday.

During the meeting, MP for Addu Meedhoo constituency, Rozaina Adam questioned whether authorities have any arrangements to monitor sex offenders active in the community. In response, Superintendent of Police Hassan Hameed stated that sex offenders have been monitored in "some" cases.

Public outcry ensued after the rape case of a 2-year-old in Kanduhulhudhoo island surfaced in the media, implicating her grandfather and great grandfather as the rapists. Authorities are facing criticism for the public due to the lack of action taken against the perpetrators.
