Male' City's first mayor to contest the position once again
Manik was the first mayor elected in 2011's local council elections
The very first local council election held under the decentralization of administrative divisions bill took place 5th February 2011.
Others contesting for mayor include current mayor Shifa Mohamed, deputy mayor Shamau Shareef and former housing minister Dr Mohamed Muizzu

Male' City's very first mayor, Adam 'Sarangu' Manik, has announced his decision to contest for the mayorship of Male' City once again.

A number of media agencies citing Adam Manik has reported that he will be contesting for mayor of Male' City in the upcoming local council elections slated for April 4th.

Manik was elected as mayor of Male' City in the very first local council election held under the decentralization of administrative divisions bill on 5th February 2011.

As such, following the recent ratification of the amendments to the decentralization bill on 5th December 2019, mayors of cities, atoll and island council presidents in the upcoming local council elections will be elected solely by votes from citizens.

This year's election will be the fourth local council election held so far.

Currently, many prominent figures have announced their interest for Male' City Mayorship, including the current mayor Shifa Mohamed and deputy mayor Shamau Shareef, as well as former housing minister Dr Mohamed Muizzu, Representative for Henveiru ward at Male City Council Ahmed Niyaz, and Maldivian Democratic Party's Secretary General Anas Abdul Sattar.
