Salat ul-Kusuf or the eclipse prayer has been performed throughout the entire Maldives, following Thursday’s Annular Solar Eclipse.

While congregations took place at the largest mosque on each island on Thursday morning, this was the last solar eclipse of 2019.

Individuals gathered for the congregation in Malé, at the Islamic Center, at Masjid-al Sheikh Jassim bin Mohamed Al-Thani in Hulhumalé and at Majid-al Birri in Villingili.

The solar eclipse was visible to northern-most atolls at 08:51am, southern-most atolls at 09:01am and residents of capital city Malé observed the full eclipse at 08:56am.

The Annular Solar Eclipse was visible across eastern Europe, Asia, north and west of Australia, eastern Africa, Pacific and the Indian Ocean.

Salat ul-Kusuf is a two-rakaah prayer performed during a solar eclipse in congregation by the Muslim communities throughout the globe.
