A car crash in Bangkok, Thailand on has left three Maldivian injured with one passenger currently in the ICU.

Mohamed Saeed, a friend of the victims, told RaajjeMV that the taxi carrying his friends rolled over while travelling from the airport to the hotel where he was waiting for their arrival.

He stated that the crash occurred when the taxi drove over a concrete block, most likely due to the driver falling asleep at the wheel. The driver has since been arrested by the Bangkok authorities.

The accident occurred at 3:30 am Bangkok time (1:30 am Maldives time) on Tuesday morning.

The victims are Ahmed Saeed and Mohamed Sabah of Hulhudhoo, Seenu atoll alongside Ahmed Rasheed of Male' city, Kaafu atoll.

Ahmed Saeed and Ahmed Rasheed were in the back seat. The taxi rolled over onto its roof with all four wheels off the ground. The entire front of the car was crushed. Doctors say Saeed has a 50/50 chance of survival. They say he is paralysed after breaking his neck.

Following the accident, 44-year-old Ahmed Saeed has been admitted in the ICU at Ramathibodi Hospital with doctors doubting his chances of survival as his condition is very serious.

As such, the Maldives Embassy in Thailand has announced that they are assisting Ahmed Saeed's family and closely monitoring his condition.

The other two passengers were also reported to have been injured with Mohamed Sabaah suffering cuts on his arms.
