Hassan Saaid is officially the fastest man in South Asia after his gold in the 100 meter event at the South Asian Games 2019.
He won the gold in the 100-meter event at the 13 South Asian Games ongoing in Nepal, after finishing the race is 10.49 seconds. A Sri Lankan athlete finished the race in 10.50 seconds and came in second while third and fourth places went to a Pakistani athlete; 10.66 seconds and 10.70 seconds.
Saaid traveled to the finals of the athletics event after winning third place in his heat.
Following Saaid’s gold, and the country’s first ever gold in the 35 years of competing in the South Asian Games, President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih congratulated “the fastest man in South Asia” via Twitter.

Sports Minister Ahmed Mahloof said that the country is “very proud” of Saaid for winning the country’s first ever gold in the games.
The athlete won gold in the finals of the same event at the 2015 Indian Ocean Island Games (IOIG). He also won silver in the last IOIG’s 200-meter dash. Saaid also won first place at the 100m preliminary round of the “Olympic Games Rio 2016” and a gold medal at the 100m round of the “Indian Grand Prix Athletics” tournament held in July that year.
With Tuesday’s gold, Saaid is officially the most successful athlete in the country’s history.
