Football star Ali 'Dhangandey' Ashfaq is missing as the final squad for the Asian Cup Qualifier match against Oman.
The team consists of nine players from New Radiant Sports Club (NRSC), seven from Maziya Sports and Recreation Club, three from TC Sports Club, two from Green Street, two from Thinadhoo and one from Milandhoo.
The nine from NRSC are; Rilwan Waheed, Goalkeeper Mohamed Faisal, Mohamed Rasheed, Ahmed Abdulla, Ali Fasir, Hamza Mohamed, Akram Abdul Gani and Abdulla Ziyan. Those from Maziya include, Amdhaan Ali, Samooh Ali, As'had Ali, Mohamed Umair, Asadhulla Abdulla, Ismail Easa and Mohamed Irfan. Ahmed Shafiu and Ahmed Rasheed from Green Street was picked for the squad, with TC's Zaadu Ahmed, Naaiz Hassan and Ibrahim Waheed Hassan. The two from Thinadhoo are Imran Rasheed and Ahmed Rizwan, while Milandhoo's keeper Mohamed Imran also made the cut.
RaajjeMV understands that the reason Ashfaq was excluded from the squad is "because he is yet to fully recover from an injury".
He is currently working to get fit for their next match against Oman, which is to be played in the Maldives in October.
The match against Oman is scheduled for September 5.
The national team is to head to Qatar on August 27, to train for the match.
