The Maldives National Defense Force (MNDF) Coast Guard, has successfully concluded “Oil Pollution Response Training 2019-1”.
The closing ceremony of the exercise held on Wednesday morning at MNDF's Hulhumale' post was inaugurated by the chief guest, Commandant of Coast Guard, Brigadier General Hamid Shafeeq of MNDF's Service Corps. He also awarded certificates to the soldiers that participated in the exercise whereas the facilitators were awarded certificates by Commandant of Coast Guard, Colonel Mohamed Saleem.
The exercise held from November 25th-27th focused on the types of oil spilled into the ocean, its effects on the environment, oil containment and recovery methods, in addition to the tutorials on the required equipment for the job.
Moreover, the training also touched on the International Convention for the Prevention of Pollution from Ships (MARPOL).
While soldiers from MNDF's Coast Guard and Marine Corps participated in the training, the training was facilitated by trained soldiers in the field.
Representatives of the Environmental Protection Agency, National Disaster Management Authority, and the Maldives Ports Limited attended to observe the exercise on the final day of the training.
In addition to Brigadier General Hamid Shafeeq and Colonel Mohamed Saleem, the closing ceremony was attended by a number of soldiers.
