Maldives has won its match against Guam, in the FIFA World Cup Asian Qualifiers, on Tuesday.
The national football team won the home game with a 3-1 score.
The Maldives’ team took the lead at the 23rd minute, with a goal from Samooh “Samutte” Ali.
The match went into halftime with a 2-0 score; the second goal was own goal from Guam, at the 37th minute.
While the Guam players came out stronger in the second half, they scored their first and only goal at the 49th minute.
This led to the Maldivian team increasing its attacks, with the team getting multiple opportunities to score a third goal.
Maldivian team’s third goal was scored during additional time, by the country’s most celebrated football player Ali “Dhagandey” Ashfaq.
Maldives in Group A, with China, Guam, Syria and Philippines.
A match between Maldives and Philippines was held on November 14, at the Galolhu National Stadium, which the team lost with a 2-1 score.
Syria is currently leading the group with 12 points, while China is in second place with seven points. Following its win last week, Philippines now has seven points as well, while Maldives is one point behind them with six points. Guam is yet to earn a point.
Maldives won against Guam with a 1-0 score, but had lost to Syria (2-1) as well as its home game against China with a 5-0 score.
The rest of the matches in the World Cup qualifiers are scheduled for next year.
