Education Minister in Paris to attend the 40th UNESCO General Conference
 
The education minister, who is also the chairperson of the Maldives National Commission for UNESCO, is set to make an address at the conference

Education Minister, Dr. Aishath Ali is in Paris, France to attend the 40th UNESCO General Conference.

The conference began on November 12, and will continue until the 27th, at the UNESCO Headquarters.

Ministry of Education said that that the minister, who is also the chairperson of the Maldives National Commission for UNESCO, is set to make an address at the conference, as well as take part in the various forums and lobby for the Maldives’ bid to become a member of UNESCO’sMan and the BiosphereProgramme (BAM).

The education minister is also expected to meet with officials from various nations, on the sidelines of the conference.

As such, Minister Aishath met with United Arab Emirates (UAE)’s Minister of Culture and Knowledge Development, Noura bint Mohammed Al Kaabi, on Thursday. They spoke on “mutual collaboration between the two countries in the fields of education and culture.”

State Minister Fathimath Naseer is accompanying the minister on the trip, along with Secretary General for the Maldives National Commission for UNESCO Ahmed Mausoom.

The two-week conference hosts delegations from 193 members countries, with the aim to turn UNESCO into a "laboratory of ideas where multiculturalism in action will be seen from the meeting rooms to the corridors of the organization."

The UNESCO General Conference is held biennially.
