The Maldives women’s national volleyball team lost its fourth match in the AVC Senior Women’s Central Zone Volleyball Championship.

With the loss against Nepal, the team also lost its chance to secure the top spot in the league round.

Nepal took the match in three straights, 25-14, 25-05 and 25-13.

With the win against Maldives, Nepal has won all its matches in the round.

Maldives’ only loss was against Nepal; the team won against Kyrgyzstan (26-24, 25-22 and 25-14, 25-18 and 15-10) , Bangladesh (25-16, 27-25 and 25-22) and Afghanistan (25-06, 25-07 and 25-08).

Hence, despite Wednesday’s loss, Maldives will play in the finals against Nepal. The final match will be held on Thursday.

This has been the women’s volleyball team’s biggest achievement to date, and a win on Thursday will make history.

The women’s team was set to go abroad to prepare for the tournament, however, the trip was cancelled.

The team had been practicing with celebrated international coach, Milorad Kijac, prior to departing for the AVC championship. While Kijac was originally appointed to the men’s team, he began working with the women’s team after concern from the players.
