Nominations were opened for President's National Award for Special Achievement in August

39 individuals will receive the National Award for Special Achievement 2019, revealed the Special Achievement Awards Committee.

The President’s Office revealed this on Thursday, adding that President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih will be presenting medals to 16 recipients of the title of “Hafiz” for memorizing the Holy Quran.

Medals are also to be presented to 17 students who achieved the top position in the world in various subjects.

The president will further award a special plaque of recognition to two scouts, scout badges to five and the Baden Powell badge to six scouts.

The recipients of the medal at the ceremony are, one who achieved an outstanding accomplishment in attaining PhD in the Maldives National Qualifications Framework, 32 who achieved highest in an academic or skill training course and six for achieving highest in an international exhibition or competition.

Further, the Special Recognition Award will also be presented to two national sports teams in the ceremony set to be held in Dharubaaruge on 10 November.

The awards will be conferred during a special function to mark Maldives Republic Day 2019, celebrated on 11 November annually.

The office opened nominations for the awards in August, having stated that they will be conferred to individuals who have performed exceptionally well in the field of higher education and training.

The Special Achievement Award is a government title conferred annually to honor and encourage those who achieve “exceptional academic achievement and bring good name to the country”, at a national level.
