A minor has been arrested under allegations of being in possession of drugs, from Gaadhiffushi island in Thaa atoll.
In an operation held jointly by the Thimarafushi Police Station and Maldives Police Service (MPS) Intelligence officers on 30 October, the minor was arrested under a court order.
The operation was carried out following an intelligence report that the minor was involved in drug smuggling and trafficking, and officers found six pieces of cellophane and a film canister containing suspected narcotics, inside his room.
Once presented to Veymandhoo Magistrate Court, the minor was remanded by seven days and is to be remanded at a location set by the Ministry of Home Affairs.
Thimarafushi Police Station is investigating the case further.
