Gov't officials involved in corruption and deaths must be exposed: Eva

"cannot shift responsibility claiming that this occurred in Yameens administration, or that they were Yaameens parliament members or Yaameens cabinet members."

Member of Parliament for Galolhu North constituency and Parliament Deputy Speaker, Eva Abdulla has stated that government officials with any involvement in the cases of corruption, disappearances and deaths must be exposed.

While speaking in regard to MP Hassan Latheefs emergency motion to expose those implicated in the Maldives Marketing and Public Relations Corporation (MMPRC)’s massive case of graft as well as those linked to murder cases, Eva stated that Prosecutor General Aishath Bisham has revealed that there are cabinet members, court judges, and members of parliament in the current administration implicated in these cases and that they are being investigated by the presidential commissions and the relevant authorities.

She added that these officials cannot point fingers at the previous administration to excuse their involvement.

We cannot ignore these cases. We cannot shift responsibility claiming that this occurred in Yameens administration, or that they were Yaameens parliament members or Yaameens cabinet members. We cannot disregard our duty or delude ourselves. The Prosecutor General has revealed this week that there are members cabinet members, court judges, and members of parliament in the current administration implicated in the MMPRC graft

She added that the information disclosed by PG Bisham must not be ignored, and the names of these officials must be publicly announced. Furthermore, she emphasized that the names must be publicly disclosed even if this may be a coalition based government, as their involvement cannot be disregarded.

"After the PG disclosed this information, it is our duty to followup on this issue. We cannot pretend that the PG didnot reveal this information and stay idle. We cannot pretend that this didnot happen. The names need to be exposed"

Eva further emphasized that if the current administration came into power with the objective of bringing justice to those who have been wronged, any government officials presently employed in the current administration implicated in the cases of corruption and cases of disappearances should be held accountable.

She stated that the president formed two presidential commissions with special authority because he was aware of such activity.
