Maldives Under-16 Netball Team has begun training to take part in the South Asian Netball Championship set to kick off this weekend.
While the tournament is set to be held from 18 – 22 October, this is the first time the young team of Maldivian players is taking part in an international tournament.
Alongside the Maldives team, teams from India, Nepal, Sri Lanka and Pakistan are also set to compete.
Coach Neesha Haleem revealed that the team was compiled with players from this year’s Inter-School Tournament and that the opportunity was also given to them from the recent Association Cup.
Although they are lacking in proficient experience, Neesha expressed hope that the team will bring home a medal.
Maldives will go up against the Indian and Nepalese teams on 18 October, respectively and then move on to a match with Sri Lanka the next day. On 20 October, Maldives will play against Pakistan.
