Bills on minimum wage and unemployment benefits assigned to sub-committees

A total of five bills have been tasked to the Committee on Economic Affairs

The Parliament Committee on Economic Affairs has formed sub-committees and begun work on drafting the bills on minimum wage and unemployment benefits, proposed by the current government administration.

The decision to form two sub-committees made up of five members was made during a meeting held on Tuesday. Furthermore, the members decided to complete and present a draft of the bill within the following week.

Members of the sub-committee assigned to the minimum wage bill are Dhuvaafaru constituency MP Ismail Ahmed, Mathiveri constituency MP Hassan Zareer, South Hithadhoo constituency MP Ibrahim Nazil, Maavashu constituency MP Mohamed Saeed, North Fuvahmulah constituency MP Mohamed Rasheed.

Members of the sub-committee assigned to the unemployment benefits bill are Naifaru constituency MP Ahmed Shiyam, Central Maafanu constituency MP Ibrahim Rasheed, Milandhoo constituency MP Ali Riza, North Thinadhoo constituency MP Abdul Mughni, and Nilandhoo constituency MP Abdul Muhsin Hameed.

The meeting concluded after members assigned members to sub-committees, and determined to complete the bill and present it to the committee. The draft of the bill will be approved based on the consensus of all the committee members.

A total of five bills have been tasked to the Committee on Economic Affairs, out of which the bills on minimum wage and unemployment benefits are currently being prioritized. Work has been scheduled to begin on other bills which include the bill on income tax, the bill on the amendment to tourism laws, and the bill on forestry. However, no sub-committee has been assigned to these bills yet.
