Fenaka Corporation has cut off the electricity in Feeali council office of Faafu atoll, due to failure to settle bills.

Council President Mohamed Jaleel told RaajjeMV that it has been six months since the electricity bills were last settled, adding that they had attempted to settle the matter by contacting the Ministry of Finance and Treasury.

However, Jaleel said that the Ministry had failed to provide any cooperation.

Noting that the electricity was cut off around 12:10 pm, Jaleel said that Fenaka had informed that it will only be reconnected after all unsettled bills are taken care of.

He further said that Fenaka had reconnected electricity to part of the office, after learning that they had decided to halt work for the day, at around 1:30 pm.

Jaleel noted that they are unable “to work effectively” because of the situation.

“Electricity bill for December is yet to be paid. Yet to pay any of the bills for this year too. We tried to contact the Finance Ministry a number of times. The Ministry failed to provide any support”, said Jaleel.

He further noted that in addition to failure to settle electricity bills, they have also faced issues in paying those who had carried out work for the council.
