Issues in MIFCO will be solved in the next two years: CEO

Fauzy said that the concerns of fishermen will be addressed in the near future

Ismail Fauzy, the CEO of Maldives Industrial Fisheries Company (MIFCO), has said that issues in the company will be solved with the help of the government in the next two-to-three years.

Speaking on RaajjeTV’s 60 Minutes programme, Fauzy said that the concerns of fishermen will be addressed in the near future.

Fauzy highlighted that fishing has not improved in the past 10 years and that, currently, there is no capacity to measure the daily catch.

He said that they find it difficult to distribute ice to fishing boats, since they have to give out ice to preserve their catch for the next day when vessels are unable to take the appropriate measurements for the day.

He also said they receive around 200 tons of fish daily from Felivaru alone and so they will be increasing the freezing capacity to 300 tons in the region.

He added that the government and STO is working on a turnaround strategy for MIFCO.
