The amendment bill to the Anti-Terrorism Act is a warning sign, says former President Abdulla Yameen.
Speaking at Thursday night’s event held by the opposition coalition, Yameen criticized the amendment bill and questioned whether it is in the best interest of the country and how it would affect Maldives’ reputation as a tourist spot.
At the event, Yameen said that the recent police raid operations initiated by the presidential commission had frightened the public and that if such a thing had happened during his administration, the opposition would have protested in the streets.
Yameen said that the amendment bill to the Anti-Terrorism Act is a warning sign of things becoming worse.
He also said that the current government has failed to fulfill its pledges and that there are numerous development projects that have still not begun, adding that he is deeply concerned about the state of the country.
