Seven people were injured and one is being treated in the Intensive Care Unit in the gas cylinder explosion reported on Wednesday, revealed Maldives Police Service (MPS).

A gas cylinder onboard “Best Line” boat docked at North Harbor exploded on Wednesday, injuring five Maldivians and two Bangladeshis, all male.

Rushed to the ICU of Indhira Gandhi Memorial Hospital (IGMH) for treatment was a Bangladeshi national. He was taken a little past 7pm on Wednesday.

Police investigations revealed that the gas cylinders on-board were compressed under the weight of cargo items that were loaded onto the boat.

MPS has since begun further investigations into the case.
