Six injured in Laamu atoll boat collision

A collision of two boats travelling to and from Dhambidhoo island of Laamu atoll on Friday has injured a total of six people onboard. 

One of the boats had been travelling from Kalaidhoo to Dhambidhoo, while the other had just left Dhambidhoo island. 

Those injured were taken to the Atoll’s Regional Hospital in Gan Island. Director of the hospital, Abdul Hannan said one individual had sustained severe injuries to his head while officials are working to treat all six patients there. 

The boat that left Kalaidhoo island for Dhambidhoo was boarded by 18 people, including members of the island’s official football team. Only a single person had been aboard the boat it collided with. 

While the boat from Kalaidhoo was loaded with passengers, it had no source of light – the individual aboard the other boat had said.
