Speaker and former President Mohamed Nasheed has said that Maldives National Defence Force (MNDF) received information three days earlier that the police are monitoring him.

Speaking at the Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP) national congress, party leader Nasheed said that the presidential commission’s report has confirmed many of their concerns.

Nasheed said that the report has confirmed that conflicts between extremist and independent thought resulted in violence, and that the police and military officers were involved. He said that MDP should not allow the police and military to harm the government.

He said that he will be targeted for discussing this issue and that the MNDF, three days before, told him that the police are monitoring him. However, he said that he will not stop addressing this problem but that it should not be interpreted as being against the government.

He added that he aims to improve the police service to establish justice in the country, which is an important goal of MDP, even during the formation of the government.
